Newsletter Twelve
First of two weeks of recipes.
It’s a new year. That started yesterday. We began scribbling appointments and other special dates in new calendars. We set up resolutions for the next year — or, if you’re like me, you didn’t.
I feel like New Year’s resolutions don’t really work. Resolutions should be for the everyday, not just the beginning of a new calendar. That being said, it is always my goal, every day, to make more art, and to learn from my mistakes and from my successes.
This passed week was filled with recipes, and next week will be, too. Rather than starting off the new year with a resolution, I decided to celebrate it with recipes to nourish people from the inside-out. Every single one is comfort food, and contains, and is built from, the inspiration of keeping your insides warm. There’s pasta, fancy toast, a couple desserts, and serving suggestions for all eight recipes — perfect for when you don’t know what to drink with what you’re eating.
Most of them have been designed as one serving. When I create each recipe, I’m usually the only person around to eat them. I don’t have a team. I’m a one-woman show. That being said, it’s normally one serving because I only eat one serving. These recipes are perfect for those eating breakfast, lunch, or dinner alone.
The other thing? The other reason why each recipe is, for the most part, one serving? Every human on this planet has a different idea of what a serving is. There is no set amount of food for what each one is. Because nobody can agree on how big a serving is, or what it should be, it makes it a lot easier if each recipe is only to feed one person. Ingredients are easy to multiply if cooking for multiple people.
I’ve always believed the style of my food to be ‘gourmet comfort food’, perfect for winter. To me, ‘gourmet’ does not mean ‘fancy’. It might look fancy, but, to me, it will always be healthy, or, ‘true food’, which is the direct French meaning.
These recipes are, for the most part, comforting and built to warm your insides.
